Is Implant Dentistry Worth the Cost?

As dental implants become more and more advanced and affordable, they become more popular with those who have lost teeth and need replacements. But many dental patients are reluctant to commit to what they worry might be a painful and expensive procedure.

Fortunately, implant dentistry has come a long way, and the answers to the three most frequently asked questions about implants are encouraging:

Is implant dentistry painful? What's important to consider about any potentially painful procedure is the temporary pain is worse than the potential negative long-term effects of ignoring the problem. That said, most patients report very little pain during or after the procedure.

Like nearly every dental procedure, implant dentistry doesn't begin until the patient is properly anesthetized. Many dentists offer patients the option of watching movies or listening to music on headphones during the operation, which provides another layer of distraction from any potential pain. Dentists often prescribe pain medication if it is needed as well.

Finally, any patient who has excessive fear of or sensitivity to pain may opt for sedation. After the operation, the patient barely even remembers anything.

Is implant dentistry expensive? The only way to determine the cost of an implant procedure is to schedule an initial consultation. The cost of the operation will depend on the number of teeth that warrant replacing.

Dental implants are rarely inexpensive, but they are a great investment. With well-installed implants, you'll have a healthier mouth and a brighter smile. Dental implants can't get cavities, either!

Does implant dentistry come with a warranty? It depends on the dentist. At Comprehensive Family Dentistry, we offer a free replacement of any implant that doesn't bond. But this is rarely necessary; most studies show a 95 percent success rate for lower jaw implants, and a 90 percent success rate for upper jaw implants. Because the upper jaw is slightly less dense than the lower, the success rate for implants is slightly lower,
