How is Children’s Dentistry Different from Adult Dentistry?

There was a time in your life when the only aspect of dentistry you had to worry about was figuring out how to spend the dollar the Tooth Fairy left you for your loose baby teeth. Fortunately, you probably had parents who concerned themselves with your oral health. And your parents knew – just as you might be discovering right now – that children’s dentistry is a discipline unto itself.

Think about it: It’s hard to be a kid. Right after you start going to elementary school – a trial in its own right – your teeth start to fall out, only to be replaced with new teeth that you’ll have to get professionally examined every six months for the rest of your life. It’s a daunting prospect. For children, dentistry is the Great Unknown.

Children’s dentistry: A delicate matter

To children, the dentist is an intimidating figure. He’s tall. He has a giant x-ray machine. He scrapes at your teeth with a sharp tool. And he’s got a drill. That he sticks in your mouth.

As a result, children’s dentistry must be a kinder, gentler type of dentistry. Fortunately, that’s where Dr. Mark Weglos and the staff at Comprehensive Family Dentistry excel. We make it a point to communicate well with all of our patients. So when you bring your child in, you know he’s coming into a caring and relaxing environment.

Children’s dentistry you can trust

We’ll take the time out to explain everything to your child – we’ll tell him the procedures common to children’s dentistry, show him the tools we use, and teach him about maintaining good oral health. And if your child needs a cavity filled or any other procedure, we’ll treat him as gently as we would our own children.

Fear of the dentist usually starts at a young age. And a big part of good children’s dentistry is showing kids that a trip to the dentist is nothing to be afraid of. That’s why Dr. Weglos and the staff at Comprehensive treat all of their young patients – in the Langhorne, Newtown, Philadelphia and greater Bucks County areas – with the utmost care and respect.

We also know that children’s dentistry doesn’t stop with children. So we’ll help to educate you on how you can help your children practice proper oral health care. Together, we can keep your kids’ teeth strong and healthy.

Comprehensive Family Dentistry serves patients in the Newtown, Langhorne and Philadelphia areas, as well as much of Bucks County. Give us a call, and set up an appointment for your kids today.
